About
Hanna Trudo
Hanna Trudo is a national journalist, writer, and commentator. She currently serves as a senior political correspondent for The Hill, where she reports on the most prominent Democratic figures in the White House, Congress, and on the campaign trail for the outlet's vast readership.
Hanna previously led coverage of Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential cycle for The Daily Beast, where she was assigned to cover his winning campaign from the primary to the general election. She also reported extensively on the most influential progressives on Capitol Hill, including the populist movement around Senator Bernie Sanders.
She has covered Democrats for five election cycles and is considered an expert on the party’s leftward shift. Early into President Biden’s administration, Hanna scored an interview with White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, who acknowledged: “Progressives are a big part of our party,” challenging the idea that Biden would govern as a centrist.
With a career spanning over a decade, Hanna has written for numerous publications, including The New Republic, Wired, Marie Claire, The Boston Globe, HuffPost, Foreign Policy, Politico, and National Journal, and has provided on-air analysis on MSNBC, Fox News, CBS News, C-SPAN, and NewsNation, as well as several radio networks, podcasts, and non-traditional platforms. Her published work has been cited by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, NPR, CNN, NBC News, ABC News, Forbes, The Atlantic, the Columbia Journalism Review, Business Insider, The Guardian, Newsweek, and in Senate Homeland Security Committee testimony.
In 2014, Hanna was part of a team of finalists for a Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism in investigative reporting. She conducted year-long research and provided analysis for a series on corporate misconduct in the assisted living industry produced by ProPublica and PBS Frontline.
In addition to election battlegrounds like Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, Hanna has also reported from the Middle East in the aftermath of the Arab Spring and in the South of France during the G-20 summit.
Hanna sits on the Board of Directors of Cosmic Writers, a 501(c)(3) organization fostering young creative writers from economically diverse backgrounds. Hailing from rural America, she is passionate about helping traditionally underrepresented students develop strong writing skills for personal expression and community advancement.
Beyond her media work, Hanna is an avid reader and enjoys creative and outdoor pursuits, including mindfulness, meditation, power walking, and fashion as wearable art.
